Wear Red Day Celebration
The first Friday in February, is Go Red For Women National Wear Red Day. Women and men everywhere are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness that heart disease is the #1 killer of women, and to make a donation to support the cause. The American Heart Association, in partnership with Macy’s and St. David’s Healthcare, will mark National Wear Red Day with a celebration at Barton Creek Square. The event will include free health screenings from St. David’s, makeovers provided by Macy’s, a red dress display, and the running of the “Red Dress Dash,” a relay race of red-donned participants looking to “dash” the myths about women and heart disease. Benefiting: The American Heart Association. Price: FREE.

Sixth Annual Jo’s Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook-Off, Proceeds to Benefit Lila Tenenbown Recovery Fund
Jo’s Hot Coffee Good Food hosts the 6th Annual Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook-Off, Two Steppin’ Competition and Benefit sponsored by Shiner and all proceeds benefit the Lila Tenenbown Recovery Fund.
Featured bands performing include Li’l Cap’n Travis, Chili Cold Blood, Chaparral and Woodsboss. Free two-stepping lessons at 11 am, dance contest at 12 pm, live music and chili tasting from 11 to 3.

The Austin Children’s Shelter’s annual “New Wave Ball,” an over-the-top 80s dance party. The event is for anyone who loves the music, fashion and fads inspired by this totally awesome decade. The party includes a “gnarly” costume contest with local celebrity judges, music, live auction and raffle. “New Wave Ball” will be held at The Speakeasy at 412 Congress in downtown Austin on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 8 p.m. to midnight and an after-party from 12-2 a.m. Tickets are $20 per person and $100 for VIPs.
